Slumdog Millionaire's Oscar hopes Kolammal Shankar [January 22, 2009, 9:29:37 AM]
Just a few hours for the Oscar nominations to be announced. Just a few hours to see who makes it to the world's most coveted red carpet. Just a few hours to see how many Oscar-prayers will be answered and how many will be left unheeded.
As the whole of tinsel town waits with bated-breaths for the 81st Academy Awards nominations, Slumdog Millionaire is the buzzword on everyone's lips. Everyone's mind is pondering on how many nominations Danny Boyle and his crew will sweep at the Oscars.
A cursory look at the experts' opinions and the other big contenders may help us gauge Slumdog Millionaire's chances at the Oscars.
Experts opine that a movie should have a 搒trong rooting?factor to make it to the Oscars. The academy's odd ballot prefers the best (and often, the oddest) of movies. Oscar pundits think some of the biggest contenders for the Best Film category nominations would be Slumdog Millionaire, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Milk, Dark Knight, Frost/Nixon and Doubt. Other lesser contenders may include Gran Torino, Wall-E and The Wrestler.
From all the predictions and cine-soothsayings, Slumdog Millionaire's nominations seem to be a certainty. Hence, it is not overtly ambitious if the Slumdog crew and the Indian film fraternity revel in the hope of making it to the Oscars.
May all their Oscar dreams come true!
